It’s a family of 7. A mom, just 27 years old, a dad, who works hard, but makes less than $13 a week, and five precious children, three of whom are under school age. They lived in a shack; a literal shack. The walls were made of tin and cardboard. The house was separated into three rooms; one with a stove and a couch, the others with three beds for all of them to sleep in. The floor was lumps of dirt, allowing rain water to seep in, creating muddy puddles, unable to be mopped up .
Currently, that house is in pieces. The family tore it down a few days after we came to let them know that out of the 6 families interviewed, they were one of the two chosen. They had 10 days to tear down, and ten days where just the new cement foundation would be drying, and waiting. They wait now, for in less than a week, the construction of their new home will begin. In less than a week that same construction will be finished. They will have a much bigger home, with an up-risen cement floor, four rooms, real windows, and a place to really call- HOME. This is just one family, out of MANY, who need a home. You can be a part of this life-changing process. You can be a part of a family’s story, of how they received a place to call home. Raise up a group to come. Raise up the $6,700 to build. Raise up a HOME in which to live. This next weekend (Oct 14-16), we get to build homes for two families!
Building homes for these families feels extra special for me, because I got to see them through the interview process, the day we told them they would receive a home, seeing them right after they destroyed their old home in preparation for the new cement floor, and now---the BUILD! One is a family with 5 children, and one is a single mom of two girls, with her elderly parents. Check out the two family profiles on the website: |
